Quale erede del compito di andare ed evangelizzare, ricevuto dalla Chiesa attraverso la Regola di san Francesco d’Assisi (1181-1226), l’Ordine dei Frati Minori Cappuccini rilevò, fin dagli inizi della Riforma nel Cinquecento (1528), l’importanza della Tradizione teologica di San Bonaventura (1221-1274) e del Beato Giovanni Duns Scoto (1265-1308) nell’istituzione degli Studia generalia per la formazione spirituale, teologica e pastorale dei frati. In questo filone si colloca lo Studio Teologico Interprovinciale Laurentianum di Venezia, istituzione formativo-culturale delle Province veneta e lombarda dei Cappuccini.
